My name is Leon Burns and I’m from Silver Spring, Maryland. In 2012, I graduated from Hampton University majoring in Business Management. I later went on to receive my Masters in Business Administration in 2016 from Long Island University C.W Post. Upon moving to the District of Columbia, I have been working as a Partner Account Manager for an IT firm that works on Federal contracts. Moving back to the DC Metropolitan area opened my eyes to a number of different social and economic disparities. To me, mental health has been one of the more undervalued topics, particularly in the Black community.
In 2017 I decided to create a Youtube channel called Black Mental Health Matters that allows people of color to share their experiences in mental health. These experiences can be professional or personal. The idea of the channel is to promote wellness and show others the importance of seeking help. I sincerely hope that this channel encourages someone to seek the help that they need so that they may start their path towards a brighter tomorrow.
